I would never use an electric fence with any of my dogs. Other things will still be able to get in the yard as mentioned and the electric fences rarely works if there is something outside of the fence the dog really wants. There are so many safer options out there. A dog run is the first thing that comes to mind.
My parents next door neighbor just got a shih tzu puppy and he took chicken wire and stapled it to post to make a safe area for his dog.
The third thing I would try is training. I have a privacy fence around an acre of land. However we have trained everydog that they cannot go through the gate unless they are told. If someone such as the electric company comes to the house to read the meter and they leave the gate open I want my dogs to know not to go out it. |
