That description of her tearing the ball apart cracked me up. Brings back memories of my girl when she was young. She would destroy things the same way, it was awesome.
As for the breathing, my Bitsy sounds like a pug when she gets overly excited, or it is really cold out. Once I calm her down, she stops. It doesn't seem to effect her health in any ways. Other than that her breathing is normal.
We asked a vet about it once and she didn't seem all that concerned with it. I just write it off as a quirk and unless it causes her anguish or discomfort will probably just leave it be.
EDIT: Please don't take my advice as nothing being wrong with your dog. It is just my experience with one of ours. As Sandysbabies wisely stated it could be collapsed trachea which we did get our girl checked for and she was fine but it does happen with these dogs.
