I thought so too, but when you use the crating as a training tool it accounts for such a small fraction of a dog's life. Exercise her everyday, separate from that, sit and play for 10-15 minutes, back to the crate, but only after she has completely relieved herself.

DvlshAngel985 has given you some great advice, I am using this same approach with a great deal of success.
