I think the anesthesia messes them up temporarily, this happens to many, and one must start over from the beginning with their potty training. I'm not sure if they learn quicker the 2nd time around or not. May depend on the dog.

Other events can to cause this to happen... moving to a new home, coming home from a vacation, a stay in the hospital. Just start from square 1 and retrain.
