My girl does the same thing! She is 8, has been doing it since the beginning pretty much.
She will take about 5 kibbles in her mouth, and sprint away, drop them, and eat them. Lather, rinse, repeat.
She is healthy and I don't know why she does it but as long as she eats, I don't mind. She seems to enjoy it.
