That should be soon enough. But are you taking him out potty before bed time? You should be absolutly sure that he has gone pee/poo if not let him stay up a bit longer and make one more trip out before bed time.
Or, I would put mine to bed, but always wake them up before I went to bed a few hours later for one last trip out to potty. They hated it, but it worked. Its not something that you should have to do forever, just until his bladder is big enough to hold it throught the night.

Doubtful that this would create a bit problem... but its possible. Try just a cheerio as a treat... it better than nothing.
