I hate to say this, because it seems hard. Persistance is the key! I find the things I cannot tolerate, the puppies 'do not do it'. (same works for skin-kids). When the pups scratched at my door, I would jump up and put them into their cage. Same with late night barking, usually caused by cat being in their beds. Usually when we go to bed, just one will sit and whine, but if you try to let him in, you find that they are all there waiting (we think it is a trick). I now usually go 'sssshhhhh!' as loudly as I can and he will stop. I use this noise to correct them for most things, it is much more peaceful than yelling at them. They understand it to mean 'stop'. i think
