I wonder about wool too, I think the smell of it can encourage marking or peeing. Regular steam cleaning will not eliminate the urine smell to the dog, you have to use an enzyme cleaner, so all animal protein is removed. Sometimes, it takes more than one treatment and you can check with an black light to see if it’s all gone. I had to put all throw rugs away for a few years, but when Joey was around 4, I was able to bring out a throw rug, so maybe you could put it away for a few years, or make that room off limits.
