You can not trust strangers with too much information. As a breeder, it is very difficult to dance around the issue of "how many babies do you have and what are their prices". When I hear this very reasonable question, my over cautious mind hears, "How many can I fit into a king size pillow case, and what will my take be worth?". When a prospective "parent" wants to "come tour my facility", I hear instead, "I would like to come case your home'. When I am asked, "Why do you only see people by appointment, are you hiding something?", I hear, "I really need to know where you live and when you will be on the property, so I can pop up when I know no one is home". I have HAD a man come to my house to look at a puppy, then refuse to leave without the 8 week old baby....I had to call the police to get him removed. I have had to call the police about someone in my backyard at 1am......I say all this just to say, if you are talking with a breeder, and she seems cautious and a little hesitant to divulge information, do NOT automatically think the worst of her. Do NOT presume she is a puppy mill or some crazy person, selling dogs out of the trunk of her car. I always establish a relationship with a buyer before I share too much information with them and you can usually "feel" if they are legit or not. I would much rather err on the side of caution and loose a sale, than have my home robbed, my babies stolen, and my family terrorized. |
