Just let it grow. I know how heart breaking it is but if you want it back the way it was don't touch it. I was so tempted to just trim Gracie's bangs after they did that to her topknot. It had taken a long time to grow it out and then they went and cut it so I couldn't get it all in the grooming band. I knew I wouldn't be happy with it cut short so I left it alone and slowly it grew back. I don't know what the deal is with groomers these days. They truly don't seem to care about what they are doing.
