I would definitely want the labs done prior...not on the same day, in house. And, as Ellie May says, it is more expensive....but my main concern would be that a decision was being made hastily as she suggested.

As for diet, that is definitely extremely important in kidney disease. There are prescription foods but you could also home cook...but as you said, a nutritionist is important. I would seek the advice of a board certified vet nutritionist.
