Default Things to look for when getting a new Yorkie

Long time lurker, first time poster. My ex-wife lost both our little girls within 4 months. I am devastated but would like to get a new angel within a year or so and am a very careful and diligent person and don't make snap decisions. But I am starting to put out feelers now.

We had terrific luck with the last two dogs. Both were healthy, CKC registered and wonderful appearance and temperament.

What should I look for in a new pup? I know it is a vague question and would probably take pages of discussion. But here is my first question....

Are there any signs to look for in a puppy to see if her coat is going to be silver/tan and silky when she matures? Are the coats of the parents what the puppy may have as she is older?

I have noticed a lot of yorkies with coarser coats, and even some advertised as "Rare black and gold, won't change color" and was always led to believe that a Yorkie true to the standard has a long, grey and tan silky coat.

Thanks for any advice!
