Default Dealing with Hypoglycemia

Hello everyone! I have a friend who just joined the yorkie band wagon. (Yay!) She adopted her baby about a week ago from a local shelter. & like a lot of adoptees and rescues he didn’t come in the best of health. He has hypoglycemia and she says he shakes and shivers really badly. (Is that normal because I’ve seen a lot of small breed dogs do this, but neither of mine have done, well unless they were cold). Ok, so she doesn’t know how to deal with his episodes. She keeps calling me, but I’ve never had to deal with hypoglycemia. So I can’t really give her advice… Well besides take him to the vet. I know some of you have babies with hypoglycemia, any little helpful facts would be appreciated. Like how could she keep his episodes down to a minimum? I think she said he’s had 4 episodes in 1 week.
His name is Timmy. They think he is about 1 and a half, and is 5lbs
