If you've been using the pads and wish to continue using them, then do so.
If you are training him to use the outside for pottying, and he'll be wearing a belly band, no time like the present to remove the pads and have him go outside exclusively.
Whatever you decide to do, duplicate the set up at GF's house, or anywhere (other houses) you take him to.
