The area that you live is real bad for Heart Worm's. I know you don't want to risk your dog getting this. You just need to take her to the Vet and have her blood drawn so they check to make sure she is Heart Worm Negative and then start her on the monthly pills. Give her one once a month. Mine get theirs the 1st of every month.
You will certainly be doing the right thing for your girl.
