Stop allowing him in bed with you. Growling and snapping should not be allowed and you are right to put him on the floor. However allowing him to jump back up is still rewarding his behavior.
If he can jump up onto the bed without any aid then the best way to keep him off is to keep him out of your room at night. If he scratches at the door then crate him either in your room or another room if he's a barker in the crate.
Another thing you can try is to keep him with your husband at night until he goes to bed. Then have him invite Zeus onto the bed AFTER your husband lays down.
