I would agree that Beneful is probably one of the worst of the worst IMO.
Check out Acana, Fromm, or Go!/Now! - you can find at specialty stores. If you're looking for something at Petsmart, check out Wellness or even Royal Canin would be a nice step up.
No one food is right for all dogs.
