We do both as well. We mainly use pee pads. Katie Scarlett took about a month to get the hang of them. She had it down pat I thought and then after her spay, she regressed. It's been almost a month since her spay and she has been accident free for many days now, so I think she is back on track. She will go outside when we are on walks or out and about, but other than that, we use pads. She is doing great on them. I always give lots of praise and a teeny piece of a treat when she goes in the right spot. She has definitely figured out that if she goes in the right spot, she gets a goodie.
