Default New to Yorkie Times

Good Morning! I am a new mommy to an amazing furbaby. Her name is Gidget and she is 7 months old.

This is my first new dog since I was a small child. My husband had two 5 year old dogs when we got married so puppyhood is a new experience for me.

It is ridiculous how much I adore Gidget. I have always wanted a small lap dog and I love that it is her favorite place to be, on my lap. She is pretty obvious that I am her favorite person which of course I love but my husband sometimes gets jealous that she prefers me over him. (hehe)

We got Gidget from a breeder in early December. The breeder was very honest and told us that she has a small hip problem so she was not breedable and not showable so she was never papered.

She was 2.8 pounds when we got her and she is now 3.8 pounds. I doubt that she will even get to 5 pounds. At the breeder we saw her (at 5 months) next to an 8 week old and she was smaller than he was!

The other two dogs that we have are Rocky (Jack Russell) and Sofi (Cavalier King Charles). Gidget loves to play with Rocky and snuggle with Sofi. Sofi is very maternal towards Gidget and every night they all snuggle together to sleep.

We are still working on the potty training. She stays dry during the day in her kennel. The mornings are pretty consistent. Evenings can be hit or miss. I read here that potty training Yorkie's takes time so I am not terribly worried about it. She is a smart dog and will figure it out. We praise her and give her small treats when she goes outside.

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you and learning more about Yorkie's so that I can be the best mama to my furbaby.

Rachel
