It's funny b/c now that I realize it, my Aunt's Biewer sounds almost like your Dexter. His name is Tristan and he was never hit/beaten/etc. either. But every time anyone goes to pick him up he bows down and backs up. I think it's a submission thing. Tristan LOVES to be held and be on your lap, but he always backs up too.
