They do sell special clippers but I use my husbands. It took quite a few tries but I got it thanks to Villette's detailed help. I hold the ear between my pointer and middle fingers and I make sure I do it in good lighting so I can get as close as I can without nipping his ear. My first few atemps at it, I really hacked him up (my poor baby) but it grow fast and by the third time or so I got it down.
The nails, I started this when he was a puppy. I just held him like a baby in my arms and massage him after his bath. I got him used to me touching his paws at a very young age. I did use the clippers a few times but I was so scared of going to short so I got my nail file and started filing them. He didn't mind one bit. Most of the time he just falls asleep. I do this every week after his bath so that they don't get too long.
