Why don't you check into what Alabama's Gulf Coast has to offer? Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are awesome in April, and either towns are so close to Pensacola, FL (think Naval Museum at NAS) and Mobile (which has museums,including a Mardi Gras museum, the Explorium, all kinds of wonderful places to eat.) Also, Destin, FL is a wonderful place with all kinds of things to do and see, and is pet friendly! :
