it does strike me as strange too but what he does it remove the cushion/pillow, pee on the bed and then rest/sleep on the cushion/pillow. it is very strange behaviour. it is almost as though he is saying although i can use it, at least you cant use it either.

im going to try with just 2 cushions/pillows for the weekend and if that goes ok i will move onto one bed and see what happens

ps i have been washing it in the washing machine on the hottest temperature with loads of soap shortly after he has done this so that the pee is still wet.
