There is no reason whatsoever to have a separate wash machine for pee pads.

Washing a pee pad is no different than any other article of clothing you throw into your washer. I'm sure you wash sheets, towels, underwear and don't take any extra special precautions to wash those article of clothing or consider it unsanitry. Not to mention baby clothes (not any longer at my house) but they were always covered in all types of
grossness~pee, poop, spit up and even throw up. Then when my boys were in sports in High School the smells/nastiness that came home along with that was even worse.

Always used the same machine but I did/do washed items with
ickiness on a hot water prewash and in the separate load. This is what I do now with pee pads, separate load, hot water prewash and then wash as usual. No bleach or anything extra added and I never do anything extra
after washing since it just is not necessary and a waste of water.
My only requirement for washable is that they are not the resold hospital pads. I've worked in and around hospitals for years and find it gross to use those in my home. You have no way of knowing what they were exposed to while in use in a hospital environment. I don't care if they have been sanitized, I have a choice of buying pee pads that have never been used by others.
I've been using disposables for over a year and all mine are from T. Bumpkins.
Washable and reusable dog and puppy pee pads, belly bands, and diapers by T. Bumpkins & Co.
The T. Bumpkins pads are very absorbent, never have leakage problems and they wash wonderfully! They all look brand new and believe me I have beat them up over the past year or so. I also like the idea of being able to order different sizes and fabrics to match my laundry room. I started out with the smaller size but just ordered the largest and love it.
With the disposables, when Doodlebug was a puppy he always made a mess of them and it was a reoccurring cost. I started with just one disposable to try and added from there.
