She was arrested. They had her on tape spouting out my SSN just like it was hers.

Once I started checking in to things, she was in the process of changing the address on my master credit report. She had a drivers license with my name, her picture and the address she used in the other town. She showed this at the car dealership.

The positive thing is that it all happened so fast so there was nothing negative on my credit report. The loan she took out was immediately closed. Now I have a credit FREEZE on my SSN. No one can take out a loan - not even me. If I want to buy something big or want to apply for credit - I have to do a temp "unlock" with a PIN and a few days notice.

I have no idea how she got my SSN. I hate to say it but I think that it may have been a medical office. I think she was looking for someone with my last name. My maiden name and her real last name were the same. We are not the same age or even the same race.

I found out from the detectives that she grew up in this. Her parents had been arrested several times for id theft and for making fake ids. This girl spent less than a year in jail and I'm sure she will just go back to her old tricks. It just won't be with my SSN! There really should be more severe consequences for ID Theft.

I'm sorry this happened to you and I hope you can get it all cleared relatively fast. I do recommend putting a freeze on your SSN for sure! You have to send a letter to each of the three reporting agencies. Just check their website for the details. I did have to provide a police report with the letter. Have you filed one? I would.
Ohhh WOW!! What a story!! I can't believe some people!!

I live right behind a police station. I asked the IRS guy if I should file a report... and he said to first see if it looked like anything else had been done. I think I am going to just go over to the station and see what I need to do.

I will put a freeze on my SSN! So that is with the three credit report companies or with the Social Security Administration?

What a Pain!!
