My DH never understood why I have a baby gate up in front of our tiny kitchen. Last night he realized why.

I was cooking dinner, and managed to overheat the oil. I got a big splash of it all over my right hand and on the floor. Now my wrist and hand are burned fairly badly. Hurts like all kinds of get out. Had that gate been down, Lola would have been at my feet, just like always. She would have been slashed with boiling oil. Even as I was shouting, Lola was freaking out to get to me to see why mommy was crying. I was so happy she didn't get hurt, even though I did.

Moral of the story: Baby gates! They save little lives from the dangers of tiny kitchens! (My kitchen is about the size of a closet)
