when sending larger dogs that get checked like baggage you need a hard surface airline approved kennel, but from what I have seen they no longer as for something airline approved to take the dog on board with you. My advise is don't get the smallest carrier, just one that is no larger than the size a carry on can be, and one that has a lot of roll up sides or mesh openings for breathing and so they can see out. Also get one that has good latch, that allows for no openings betwee the zipper or latch. Lola has been able to push her nose out the crack where the zipper ends and the end flap begins. Even though the latch is on and that stays shuts the zipper will opens and she pushes out of it. Also make sure it has a small detachable strap on the inside, about 10 or so inches, this way you can clip them in, but they can also move around in the carrier.
