His crate is in the living/dining room area. I was thinking to move it to the bedroom, but my bed is so high that I do not think he would see us anyway. I think he hates his crate.

He never goes in without having been put in. I was really hoping that he would consider it a safe haven like lot of your dogs, but no. He has his toys and his little bed (which he likes) and a water bottle attached to the side. He doesn't seem to bark and whine as badly when we go to work in the mornings. Its just at night when we go to bed that he does it mostly.
I am not doing well with training him. I thought he was doing great on the pads but lately it seems as if he is just "going" wherever he feels like it. The only time he "goes" where he is supposed to is when I first get home and take him out to the balcony (he has pads there and in the house).
He is nipping/biting alot. I can't even pet him without getting scratches from his teeth. I know he is young and this is probably normal. I have lots of chew toys for him and he uses them AND my hands.
Any help?!?!?
