Well, that's most of the time true, I guess, because in general... most high protein foods have higher calories, so it makes sense, but it's not necessarily ONLY because of the protein percentage if that makes sense. There are a lot of factors of why you would need to feed more or less, and simply a protein % number isn't always the answer.
For example, there can be a food and the ingredients could be "by-product meal, corn gluten meal, soy, wheat .... etc etc" and the protein could be 30%. But just because that protein is 30% - the protein is coming from plant based sources. So the dog would most likely need to be fed more in order to feel satisfied.
But yeah, in general, I always look at the kcal/cup as a basis for feeding.
