The one downside to portable humidifiers is that they need frequent cleaning(at least once a week I think), and it is a chore.
We have a lot of floor vents in our house for the forced air heat, so we bought plastic half covers that direct the air a certain way and placed glass dishes with water in them on the vents. We replace the water each day. It does make a difference.
