Question Humidifier for dry winter air?

Recently, my skin is dry and my hair a little staticy, (and so is ZoE's ). I'm thinking it's from the dry winter air and the forced air heating in my wee house.

Does anyone use a portable humidifier in winter? If so, do they work well?

My last house had a humidifier on the furnace that was installed at the recommendation of my builder, as I had alot of wood flooring. My wee house has wood flooring but no humidifier. I don't want to go to the expense of installing a furnace one right now and am wondering if a portable will make a difference to air quality even if moisture isn't being blown with the forced air.

I'm slathering on lotion daily and it's really not helping much. Any recommendations?

Thanks
