If it were only fleas we had to worry about, I would never use anything. Our problem is ticks. They are really bad in our area and carry scary diseases. Teddy has had several very bad tick bites, but thankfully, never picked up any disease.
I hate putting pesticide on them too. There are "natural" alternatives that include essential oils, but those require diligent study because they can be harmful if done incorrectly.
