It sounds like he loves you very much and you love him... just really think about this before you do anything...because you are not feeling well now you may not be thinking clearly.. he sounds like he is happy just to be with you, his companionship is probably important to you too right now,why not see if you can pay one of your kids to walk him every day,just a short walk..other than that I dont see how he could be any happier with someone else,also you could try to section him off from the main area your dad is in or away from the stairs..just a few thoughts,as I think you and he are good for each other
