I think some dogs need a job. Something to make their lives have some meaning. Not "meaning" like it would be for a human, but they need a focal point. Your pup has decided that you and your wife are his responsibility.
When I had young kids the dog felt the kids were his responsibility and would not go to sleep until the last one was home and in bed and then he would come up and sleep on my bed. It got difficult for him as the kids got older. Giving your dog exercise would help. A good brisk walk is a lot different than running around the house. It gets the heart rate up along with respiration. It will tire him out if you do it a couple of times a day.
Having another interest would help. A cat or another dog would give him something else to set his mind on. He may think of it as an intruder at first since he is so bonded with the two of you. If your going to add one I would do it before he gets much older and set in his way. |
