Petfinder is a great idea! I thought it was only for approved rescues/shelters/etc. but I just looked around a little and they have classified sections where individuals can post about pets in need of new homes.

Also, I would try putting up a sign at my vet, most vets have bulletin boards, and you can also inform the receptionists. She does have to be careful and check out the buyers, I hate to mention it, but dog fighting is a huge industry and most people don't even realize how vast it is. They are very secretive, and both large and small dogs can be used as bait.
