I don't want to leave him in the kitchen/living room area overnight as that is where he is all day long... and he seems to do good while I'm at work. My neighbors that work from home or are around during the day say they never hear him.

Do you have an open crate at night? Or is it like a playpen? With Diezel if he can hear us or knows that we are in the room he will whimper. IF he knows where I am but cannot get to me he almost panics and go nuts. So I do not keep him in my room just yet. I keep him in the living room/kitchen area and put a blanket over the crate to make it a lil darker. Also the TV is kept on 24/7. If he is in a closed crate I would say keep him where he is until he is comforatable and quiet. Then try moving him into the bedroom.
