Don't give up and buy from a puppy mill. I don't think you would be happy with the result. If you can find anyone who belongs to an AKC breed club or even an all breed club those people can usually point you in the direction of some better breeders. I went to the AKC website but didn't see much listed for your state but maybe one of the near by states would have a contact person. Don't buy a dog just because it is akc. Look for someone involved in the breed or conformation clubs. You may have to drive farther than you like but I think it would be well worth your while.
One dog we purchased quite a while back we drove a couple of hundred miles for and then spent the night in a hotel before driving home again. He was worth the weekend it took to get him and was the family dog when my kids were young. |
