Higgins came "home" to a tiny camper in a Florida RV park where we were spending the winter. At 8 weeks old, he met lots of people and their dogs. Of course, we were very careful to keep his shots right up to date. Our biggest danger that first few months were the raptors flying overhead. They like to swoop down and take off with tiny dogs, so we kept his pen under a shelter.
We spent most of our year camping. Loved it so much that last year we sold our house, gave away all our stuff, and moved into a 35' fifth wheel so we could travel around the country. Basically, Higgins has grown up in campgrounds. I have to add here that he had a wonderful mentor in Pogo, our poodle/dachshund cross, who went to the Rainbow Bridge in October at 14 years of age.
Higgins is happy, healthy, and VERY well socialized. Loves most everyone, but is wary around children on bicycles or skateboards. And he is quite a star in the campgrounds we stay in! Everyone loves watching him play frisbee. They can't get over his friendliness and great spirit.
His quite the dog, our little one. Relax, and enjoy you pup. Good common sense will see you and you furbaby through lots of good times. |
