Orinskye -
I'm back - (mine was the post before yours) I'm back because I don't want people to confuse my attitude with yours. I only took my dog to work around a few people (five adults to be exact) that I know well - and otherwise he has basically been around two neighbors and my family and friends and family pets. Most of these people have been around my pup at my house. I have never hauled him around. And wherever I have taken him, he has been allowed to sleep like a puppy should - without interruption - and has never been handled a lot. He has certainly slept in a few laps though.
I have had my pup for almost three months. He has been to my sister's house once - to work twice (for only a few hours) - and to the vet twice. And - he visits two of my neighbors. That's it! (I'm sure we'll get out and around more when summer comes!!!)
I don't agree with taking a little puppy out on a daily basis - especially to malls, schools, movies, etc. And, I never had my young puppy around a lot of strangers or animals that I don't know.
He's older now - and I still wouldn't do this. I see little dogs in knapsacks being carried around by young people at the mall - being handled, kissed, and handed back and forth. I feel sorry for those little pups - and wonder what the owner's IQ is. First, I'm not sure they are allowed to be there, and secondly - this is not the best or most comfortable place for a little pup to be. I know there are exceptions -- but I also don't agree with sneaking little pups (dogs) into places where they are not supposed to be.
Your little guy will probably grow up to be a healthy, happy little dog. But, I'm sure he would be happier and more comfortable now if he weren't hauled around so much. I think when you're hanging out at the mall - your little puppy should be home sleeping. My pup plays his heart out - but he certainly spends a great deal of every day curled up sleeping away on a chair or in his bed. And, when he's like that - I almost tiptoe around....he just looks so comfortable.
I'm not a worrier - and I'm more liberal than a lot of people -- but you've got me beat!
