I no longer used a cage/crate. I actually stopped using one the second week we got Zoe. My room is small enough to keep him confined and not have too much freedom. I think you should try putting in his crate a worn t - shirt with your scent on it. Your smell comforts them. I heard about putting a clock in their blankets do that they can hear a heart beat but I don't believe in that. A shirt should work.
