While I think a well thought out decision, and not a knee-jerk one, is always best, I believe that by the time someone actually makes the move to rehome a dog, it is probably the best thing for the dog.
What I do find concerning, is the number of young couples that "test-run parenthood" by getting a puppy, with little thought to how that dog will fit into the family dynamics once they start having babies.
