It's very likely the Yorkie you choose will be in the 7+ pound range as an adult whether you choose a 'breed standard' pup or a rescue of unknown origins. Dogs, like people, have gotten bigger. But the breed standard remains very tiny. My Max was 4.5# at 15 months -- supposedly full grown. But over the last year, with lots of exercise, and excellent nutrition, he's a hefty 6#. He was beautiful, but very frail and very thin when I got him. Dogs raised to show may spend so much time in confinement that they don't develop the muscle and appetite that they do once they are placed in pet homes.
