Maybe you don't have kids....and maybe you're too young to remember a time when they didn't have pay-at-the-pump gas stations?
But there was many a time when I left my kids &/or pup in the car to pay for gas. Admittedly, I waited for a pump right up front, cracked windows & locked doors and had my eyes on the vehicle the entire time that it took to pay (and had no problem, if there was a line, asking to cut in to pay, which back in the day consisted of handing over a $20 and saying "20 on pump 3"..and I was outta there).
Thankfully, Michigan law protects parents when doing this.
