I have to say, I can't believe how many places charge pet rent... I've noticed a rise in that in our area and I think it's absolutely ridiculous. The pet does not earn an income and therefore cannot contribute to rent. They are already living with you. Do you pay a child rent? That would be, at least here in CA, against the law because of discrimination.

Even a non-refundable fee or deposit (depending on your local laws) is also ridiculous. Yes, not every pet owner is bad, but why make everyone pay for it? If their pet messes up and they aren't quick enough to clean it, or if they do real damage, then you keep the deposit. If not and there is no damage at the end, then why keep it? What are they going to use that money for?

I had to pay $500 (more than MY deposit!) for Zeus, but it's refundable. And $250 for my cat, Odysseus. When we move out, I'll be cleaning the carpets. My babies do NOT have fleas, but I'll make sure that it's included just so it's on paper so I can get all of their deposits back. But to keep it...bah. Gets me angry... lol
