When I married I had a little Maltese. She was very spoiled and used to being in my lap when ever I sat down. When the first child was born we introduced her to the baby as soon as I brought him home. She was allowed to sniff the baby and check him out closely. When I would hold the baby she would be right beside me. She followed me around as I cared for the little one. She would look at me as though I was a slacker if I didn't run to get the baby as soon as he cried. I know Yorkies have a different personality than a Maltese but I think with proper introduction and allowing her to feel she is an important part of the care of the child there should be no real problem. I was a stay at home mom so they both got lots of attention. I think that is the important part.
Best wishes to you and the new baby. |
