I'm trying to remember - you're supposed to get them used to baby smells like baby powder, lotions, etc. While you are still at the hospital - have one of your family members bring him one of his blankets for the dog to smell.
I had a very spoiled little maltese when my DS was born. I was so worried but we all did fine.
Casper did have to take a backseat for a while (colicky newborns take ALL your time and energy) but I managed to eek out some time with Casper. I would bundle up my son; leash up the dog and out we'd all go for a nice, long walk/stoller ride.
You can do it!
