Default Best detangler

What do you think is a really good detangler please? Both for brushing out knots & for helping prevent them.

I've owned lots of long haired dogs, as well as Yorkies, but I've never, ever had one as bad as one of my current little ones for tangling up.
He gets brushed & combed every day but I only seem to need to turn my back & he's tangled again! I don't know what he does overnight....bed head hair isn't in it!

He has a long coat & I don't really want to have to cut it short as he looks gorgeous when it's right, plus it's cold & he feels it.

I'm currently using Ice on Ice but wondered if there was anything you thought better as it doesn't seem to be keeping it that smooth.
