Why can't he be with you while you finish up for the day? I think being in that one room alone for more than 8 hours is a bit much. Im sure he would rather fall asleep on your lap even if the light is on, or in a bed near you. It can help you two bond.
May brothers and I can stay up pretty late when we get together. Kaji, my pup, will gladly sleep in my lap, or curl up on he couch with us. We're loud, and he doesn't care. He just likes to hang out with us. If it's last his self imposed bed time, he just sleeps. He doesn't seem bothered by our antics.
