Of course it tells them something. Why get it then??? They check the number that comes up on their scanner with the number on their chart. I always make sure my vet checks my babies chip every time I go there, just to make sure it still works.
If your baby is lost then the vet checks the chip and the information is tied to the chip maker as to who the owner is. That is why you have to register the chip number and give them your contact information.
