Might I add until you can get a good cleaning with enzymatic cleaner put plastic sheets on you couch. Also look up cleaning companies some will specialize in removing pet odors from furniture.

Then as others suggested if you are not prepared to watch him 24/7 then when you can't watch him, put him in his crate. Walk him regularly for pee poo and for exercise. Another idea is to have a leash on a halter one end attached to dog and one to you, where you go he goes.

Punishing him in the manner you have been is obviously not working. So try something new. Good luck
